Indian Jackal

The Indian Jackal (Canis aureus indicus), belongs to the dog family and plays a very important role in the maintenance of the Eco-system as a scavenger. Jackals can best be described as opportunistic omnivores. They cooperatively hunt small or young deer such as Chital (Spotted deer) or, Barking deer. They also eat snakes and other reptiles, insects, ground-dwelling birds, fruits, berries and grass.
